We just got to spend a day with our families, some of us braved Black Friday, and we're hoping our teams do good this long football and turkey weekend. Maybe our patience is a little frayed at this point so let's try to lift your spirits a bit.

Here are five songs to motivate you to get through this long, upcoming holiday season.

"All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" - Hank Williams, Jr. Are you ready for some football!?! Getting us all in the mood is the patron music saint of Monday Night Football. We're hoping our team does well and no hangovers the next morning.

"Won't Back Down" - Tom Petty. It's been long, hard, and sometimes exhausting but we need to keep going. As the late Mr. Petty reminds us, we won't back down.

"Heroes" - David Bowie. Not everybody is having a good time this time of year. A reminder that we can be a little sensitive to those who dread it. Be a hero to someone this holiday season.

"Mr. Blue Sky" - Electric Light Orchestra. I dare you not to have a smile on your face after listening to this song.

"Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" - Monty Python's Flying Circus. If Brian can keep his spirits up (with a little help from Eric Idle) while being crucified, anyone can.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">They go into harm's way. Many times, with no idea for the reason why but they do a dirty job, putting their lives on the line, under orders from those above. Hopefully, it will be for a good cause and they'll come home to live a happy and healthy life. Sadly, that is not always the case but we still appreciate what our veterans have done to protect us and defend our country.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We salute our those men and women this Veteran's Day weekend with a playlist in their honor.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "Star Spangled Banner" - Whitney Houston. The 1991 Super Bowl was played with the background of a new war looming behind it. Operation Desert Storm had just launched and our country's troops were in the middle east, trying to evict Iraqi troops from neighboring Kuwait. Ms. Houston channels her energies into a longing for those troops to come home and one of the most iconic performances of our national anthem.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. "The Battle of Ira Hayes" - Johnny Cash. Cash doesn't sugarcoat things and this song is a fine example. It tells the story of an Arizona Pima Indian who went off to war, even when those back home abused his people and stole their water. He fights heroically, only to come home, become a drunk, and die in a ditch.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. "Goodnight Saigon" - Billy Joel. A haunting song of the indignities suffered upon those who went to Vietnam. From boot camp in Perris Island to the battles in the jungle that didn't lead to any great victories.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "Fortunate Son" - Creedence Clearwater Revival. Great, hard rocking tune with John Fogerty singing about those sent off to fight our wars. They're not the senators sons. They're not the CEO's son...they're not those fortunate sons. They're the unfortunate ones who have no choice but to go off and fight.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. "Fightin' Side of Me" - Merle Haggard. A counterpoint of patriotism, Haggard wrote 'em as he saw them and this song was saying, you can say what you want, feel what you feel, but if you're running down our country...well...those are fightin' words.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Enjoy the music and your long weekend, especially those of you who have served our country.

We sold out all of our running auctions last week at The Musick Channel Garage Sale...thank you all very much...and now we're restocking for this week.

As a reminder, the Garage Sale is a way you can support our efforts across the family of blogs that make up The Musick Channel. You get great bargains on classic vinyl albums while giving us the means to continue. Also, we are past the halfway mark on this sale, once these albums are gone...that's it! The sale will be over so hurry up and get these deals while you can.

Here are some samples from this week's auctions...

"Europa and the Pirate Twins" - Thomas Dolby. While Dolby is well known for "Blinded Me With Science," this tech-nerdy new wave artist also had a hit with this song which is a longing for his childhood friend. It's a great song, more harmonic that 'Science' and more wistful with some great hooks and lyrics but...guess what!...you don't have to give either one up because both are on this album.

We're marking this down to a minimum bid of 99 cents due to a rather significant tear on the original, plain white paper inner sleeve but the vinyl's still in great shape as is the outer jacket and we're putting the disc in a new, plastic lined inner sleeve (you still get the original so you still have the complete original packaging).

Buy Thomas Dolby's "The Golden Age of Wireless" at The Musick Channel Garage Sale.

"Miss America" - Styx. From their big album 'The Grand Illusion," This song is neither Dennis De Young (the Broadway influenced showman of the band, singing songs like the flying saucer themed "Come Sail Away") or Tommy Shaw (the more gritty vocalist on songs like "Fooling Yourself"), this one is by guitarist James "JY" Young who spits out an angry indictment of the shallowness of things like beauty pageants. Nice, hard rocking song.

Buy Styx's "The Grand Illusion" at The Musick Channel Garage Sale.

"I Wish I Was Born In Beverly Hills" - Alice Cooper. Earlier in his career, Cooper struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse (he's a sober born-again Christian, now) and spent some time in rehab. Through that unique Alice Cooper vision, he came up with a concept album dedicated to spending time in an asylum, based on his experiences. 'From The Inside' is the result of that. While this album also features one of his biggest hits, the tender (really!) and lovely ballad "How You Gonna See Me Now?"...which was written to his wife, Cheryl, about how she'd receive him after letting her down...it also has this cynical view of the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

This album also has one of the all-time best examples of lavish vinyl outer jacket cover art with a huge gatefold featuring die-cut doors allowing you to open them up and peek inside the asylum.

Buy Alice Cooper's "From The Inside" at The Musick Channel Garage Sale.

"Synchronicity 2" - The Police. This band has produced so many great songs but I think this one is my favorite. A gloomy look at the suburban rat-race life style, this is a fascinating song and very interesting musically, too. The album of almost the same name also includes "King of Pain," "Every Breath You Take," and "Wrapped Around Your Finger."

"Dancing Fool" - Frank Zappa. One of the most unique talents to come across the music spectrum, Zappa always explored his music deeply and, mostly, with humor. This comes from the double-album 'Sheik Yerbouti' which also contains such ditties as "Jewish Princess" and "Broken Hearts Are For Assholes."

Buy Frank Zappa's "Sheik Yerbouti" at The Musick Channel Garage Sale.

This weekend, we're remembering musicians that passed on to the great beyond in November. Take a gander at a few of those who made their mark on the world of music.

5. "Southern Nights" - Allen Toussaint. Although Glen Campbell had the big hit with this...and it's a good version...I think I prefer Mr. Toussaint's slow, wistful, even dream version of the song he wrote. Allen Toussaint died on November 10, 2015.

4. "My Sweet Lord" - George Harrison. The former Beatle found himself in hot legal water when it was determined that he plagiarized "He's So Fine" for his ode to Hare Krishna. George died on Movember 29, 2001

3. "The Devil Inside" - INXS. No, the band didn't die...they're still going strong...but it's charismatic lead singer, Michael Hutchence died of autoerotic asphyxiation on November 22, 1997

2. "Cum On Feel The Noise" - Quiet Riot. Screamin' Kevin Dubrow made this a big hit for the L.A. area band back in the late 70's and early 80's. He died on November 19, 2007.

1. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen. Now that there's a biopic out for this band and the flamboyant singer, Freddie Mercury, it's a good time to remember one of the best talents of the era. Freddie died on November 24, 1991.
You have less than 24 hours before the auctions end on the albums below, bids as low as 49 cents on some of them. Here are some samples...
"Cielito Lindo" - Sons of the Pioneers. The premiere cowboy band. Roy Rogers once was a member. Great cowboy music, here they do their take on a classic Mexican song.

"Precious" - The Pretenders. A great group bridging the gap from punk to New Wave. Fronted by Chrissie Hynde, this is their breakthrough album. Here's a sample of a punk tinged, hard rocking tune that you'll find on our album.

The Dodgers are hoping to end a 30 year drought after making it to the World Series for the second year in a row. The Red Sox hope to spoil that. Whoever wins, we all win this weekend with a battle of the bands...three from L.A and three from Boston.

Who will win? Since the Dodgers are the home team, we'll give the visitors the first at bat...

"Rock and Roll Band" - Boston. Hmm, wonder where this band is from? Well, it say's it right there in the lyrics, "just another band out of Boston." Check out this classic autobiographical tune from a classic band.

"Good Vibrations" - Beach Boys. Just a couple of freeways away from Dodger Stadium, the Wilson boys and their cousin Mike Love must've heard their fare share of Vin Scully enhanced baseball games. Maybe this lush tune can send some good vibrations the blue crew's way.

"I'm Shipping up to Boston" - Dropkick Murphy's. Died in the wool Sox fans, the Dropkick Murphy's check in with their take on an old Woodie Guthrie tune.

"Light My Fire" - The Doors. L.A.'s own 60's classic band, Jim Morrison's vocals can maybe light a fire under the boys in blue with their entry.

"Dream On" - Aerosmith. Are the boys at Fenway dreaming when they think they can take it all this year? Local boys Steven Tyler and Joe Perry hope it'll all turn out to be real.

"Give it Away" - Red Hot Chili Peppers. Southern California's Anthony Keidis and Flea hope the Dodgers won't give it away this week and come home with a trophy.

Getting a bit chilly in the fall so we sleep cozy under our covers. Hey! It's also a good theme for this weekend's playlist.

Some cover tunes (songs remade by another artist after becoming famous for the original tune) are as good, if not better, than the original. Here are five for your listening pleasure.

5. "All Along the Watchtower_ - Jimi Hendrix. Only one of the most inventive and best guitarists could take this Bob Dylan song and turn it into a power rocker.

The original by Bob Dylan

4. "Respect" - Aretha Franklin. Originally a cool R&B tune by Otis Redding about a guy asking for some respect after spending all his money on his girl, Ms. Franklin turned it into a powerful song about female empowerment...she's demanding a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T here.

The original by Otis Redding

3. "Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin. They didn't want to admit it but this was a cover of Muddy Waters' blues tune "You Need Love." Kept denying it but a lawsuit and verdict says differently. Still, a very good tune by the 70's power band.

2. "The Man Who Sold The World" - Nirvana. Great guitar licks highlight this cover of a very good David Bowie tune.

1. "Hurt:" - Johnny Cash. Maybe the best cover ever. Nine Inch Nails originally recorded this powerful song of the pain addiction causes, not just to the addict but to those around them. Then, Johnny Cash took it to a whole 'nuther level. Even composer Trent Reznor thinks it's better than the original.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We're headed out to celebrate Oktoberfest tonight. It's an annual party to celebrate the marriage of King Ludwig of Bavaria to his bride, Terese. It's also a big excuse to drink beer and party like a Bavarian.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We'll mark the occasion with a list of German and German-language music.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hände zum Himmel" - Hansi Hinterseer. The first time we went to Germany, we settled into our hotel, turned on the TV, and quickly went "what the holy hell is that?" 'That' was Hansi, an Austrian former Olympic skier who has gone on to a huge career as a folk singer. Now you to can wonder just what the hell did I just see...
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" - The Scorpions. Probably the most popular German band to hit it big in the states, The Scorps know how to lay down a commercial lick...and sing it in English too...to be able to sell millions and millions of records.
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. "99 Luftballons" - Nena. How to make it harder to break into America if you're a foreign singer? Do it in your native language. Although Nena recorded an English language version of this anti-war song, it's the German language one that lives on.
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "Autobahn" - Kraftwerk. A rousing rocker to the fun that is driving on the autobahn with no limits. Believe me, this is a very freeing thing to do.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. "Der Kommisar" - Falco. Many versions, including English, have been put out but Falco's original German version is the best with this semi-rapping ode to criminal street life.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We'll be having fun at Oktoberfest tonight and hope you do too. Keep some of these German tunes in mind when you do.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "Ain't No Sunshine" - Bill Withers. Oh the blues and pain of it all. It's dark, it's deary, it's like...there's no sunshine when she's gone. Let Bill Withers mournful voice be a sympathetic voice during this pain.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "Fall to Pieces" - Patsy Cline. Now that you've gotten out, what's it like everytime you see your old flame? Well, for some it's so painful that they fall apart.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><strike>"Welcome to the Machine" - Pink Floyd. 'Wish You Were Here' is the band's follow-up to their smash hit album, 'Dark Side of the Moon.' Follow-ups are usually mere shadows of the album that preceeded them but this one hit just as much of a home run as '...Moon.' It's among the pantheon of Pink Floyd's masterpiece albums and includes such great songs as "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," the band's beautiful tribute to former band member Syd Barrett, and "Have a Cigar," Roger Waters acidly sarcastic song about greedy record executives.</strike>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Boom Boom! (Out Go The Lights)" - Pat Travers. His most famous song, a real singalong in person, this is a rocking cover of an old blues tune.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Our copy of 'Go For What You Know,' Mr. Travers live album, has a rare red-on-black Polydor inner sleeve in near mint condition to go along with the excellent condition vinyl and outer jacket. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Ring of Fire" - Wall of Voodoo. When this came on at Tower Records while I was browsing one day, I knew I had to have it. Moody and haunting, this cover of Johnny Cash's hit would fit right in at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Outer cover's a little worn but, otherwise, our disc is close to mint condition including the record itself, the inner sleeve, and the lyrics insert. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Situation" - Yaz. Sounds like Depeche Mode, no? Vince Clarke, Depeche Mode's drummer started this band and, yes, you'd be forgiven if you thought it was his previous band. Great club dance tune.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?" - Waylon Jennings. Seems like every artist comes up with a tune that's basically a f**k you to their record company at some point. Jennings writes this one about how the Country music industry has basically sold out and has become a 'grooming' machine for artists to tow the line with. As he relates, there's no way Hank Williams did it that way. No wonder he's an outlaw.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Gorgeous portrait of the late Jennings on the cover of this one and it includes many of his best tunes like "Amanda" and "Mommas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys." This copy is in great shape and ready for your turntable. Buy Waylon Jennings 'Greatest Hits' at The Musick Channel Garage Sale.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Fall begins today. I love that, my favorite season of the year. It follows my worst season, summer, which is too hot and miserable. Fall is perfect as the heat settles down before the cold sets in.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Composers must have a different idea because most songs about the season are melancholy and somber...odes mourning the end of summer. That's too bad.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "Harvest Moon" - Neil Young. Here's a beautiful song celebrating a life-long love affair. Young's a wonderful songwriter and this song, which sings many times "because I'm still in love with you" really resonates to those who are deeply in love.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. "September" - Earth, Wind, and Fire. A simple song with some simple lyrics. Peppy and happy, we're still in love in December like we were in September. That's pretty much the entire song.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. "California Dreaming" - The Mama's and the Papas. Living in a gray New York as fall sets in, dreaming about being in California where...the quakes and wildfires are going strong? Well, that's just our real life interrupting this pretty fantasy.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "If We Make it Through December" - Merle Haggard. Another sad song about the season. Someone's been laid off, hoping to make it through the end of the year where things might look up a bit, even some California dreaming in here, too.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. "What Made Milwaukee Famous Made a Loser Out Of Me" - Jerry Lee Lewis. Fall is also time for our favorite holiday, Oktoberfest. We top this list off with a great beer drinking song for singing in your favorite beer tent or garten this fall. Presented by the killer himself.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

Last week I had the privilege of seeing my all-time favorite musician live...William Royce Scaggs, better known by his high school nickname, Boz...in Santa Barbara.

It was a great show and the 74 year old's voice was still perfect. Hopefully, you like him to because this week we're highlighting Boz Scaggs with three of his albums being listed at The Musick Channel Garage Sale on Ebay.

Here are some selections from those albums...

"Lido Shuffle"- Originally on his biggest hit album, 'Silk Degrees,' we have this track on 'Hits', Boz's greatest hits album, released in 1980 by Columbia. The song tells of some con, trying to pull off one last score, and then heading into the sunset across the border. This song is a little more rocking that the blues-infused music Scaggs usually likes to play. Great bouncy number featuring David Paich's (of Toto fame) synthesizer bridge in the middle.

"Miss Sun" - A new track for the 'Hits' album, this almost throwaway song became a big hit for Boz and is a highlight of his live show when he sings the third chorus with his backup singer, Miss Monique.

Our 'Hits!' disc is in great condition, inside and out. You'll love this collection of Boz Scaggs greatest hits plus the extra track of "Miss Sun," highlighted above.

"You Make It So Hard To Say No" Before 'Silk Degrees' and collaborating with David Paich and the Porcaro Brothers, Boz was starting to show his poppy inclinations of the 1970's with is album 'Slow Dancer.' It really showed how accessible his music could be and, with a little polishing and the help of Paich and the Porcaros, the next album struck gold and platinum. This song of a guy thinking about one that got away hits all those marks that would make 'Silk Degrees' the all-time classic album that it it.

The 'Slow Dancer' album in the garage sale is another red-label Columbia release that's in excellent condition. Come on over and make your bid or buy it on the spot.

"Hard Times" The follow up album to 'Silk Degrees' is 'Down Two Then Left.' It didn't spawn any top 40 hits but the album itself was a big seller, hitting number 11 on the Billboard charts. In my opinion, this one is just as good as 'Silk Degrees' and this number, kind of the opposite of above, of a guy falling helplessly in love highlights his way of putting his blues stamp on a catchy, danceable pop tune.

'Down Two Then Left,' with it's melting ice sculpture of Boz on the cover, is available at The Musick Channel Garage sale. It's in great condition and will make a excellent addition to your Boz Scaggs vinyl collection.

"Lowdown" His biggest, monster hit. This is the one that paid for his vineyard in Napa Valley. A song about a guy pretending he's a big shot to his girl when he's just another low. Smooth, jazzy, great lyrics, with his blues overtones, this is all Boz Scaggs distilled into one song. No wonder it became such a bit hit...even though he didn't think it would be. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...pretty much defined the music of my youth. On the other hand, many great songs found solace in the bottom of a bottle. There's been some great explorations of drowning out our sorrows over lost love, lost jobs, and just loss of dignity at times.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Let's get right to it...
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">6. "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer" - George Thorogood. Thorogood covers this Amos Milburn drinking ballad exceptionally well. He's out on the streets after his landlady kicks him out, his friend won't let him crash on the couch. Only one thing left to do...gonna get drunk until he can't even speak.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "Red, Red Wine" - UB40 - England's reggae band got a big hit with this one. About trying to forget that one who broke up with you but you think you still need. The red wine will help you forget, my friend...
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. "I Lie When I Drink" - Dale Watson. Like Merle Haggard's "Swinging Doors," this tune is about a guy who basically lives in the bar. But he's a truthful gent, until he gets a few under his belt. A great honky tonk tune by the best in the business.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. "Drunken Lullabies" - Flogging Molly. This Irish punk band (by way of L.A.) comes through with this song about dark prospects and the unreal possibility of achieving anything good so we end up the same old way...singing drunken lullabies instead.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "Tonight, the Bottle Let Me Down" - The Mavericks. Raul Malo and the Mavericks love to take a dark song and set it to a happy, uptempo tune and this rendering of Merle Haggard's classic tale about how even the alcohol can't make him forget his lost love is a perfect example. Great swing version of the country classic.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. "Misery and Gin" - Merle Haggard. The king of drinking songs. Nobody did it as prolific and with such expertise as did the Hag. I could do a couple of entire lists of his odes to alcohol...maybe I will someday...but we'll put the cherry on top of this list with this one. Another ode to a lost love, a guy drinking to forget, hooking up with a meaningless fling, trying to make his appearances seem way happier than the sad truth...a masterpiece of a song.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The telephone...has there ever been an invention that went from such a necessity to such an annoyance so fast? I'm not exaggerating when I say that 9 out of 10 calls we receive on our house phone is from someone trying to sell me something I don't want or actually a criminal trying to steal my money.

We don't even answer it anymore, so if you call make sure you aren't offended by having to leave a message. It's just too frustrating anymore.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">With that, here is our week's top five list of songs devoted to Alexander Graham Bell's invention that worked its way under our skin.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "Hanging on the Telephone" - Blondie. The bands hard rocking hit from their Parallel Lines album hits it hard. The lyrics mean something else altogether but I can see it being me getting so upset with the idiots that call nowadays. Listening to this, I'll get Frank Infante's great driving guitar solo stuck in my head for a week.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. "Telephone Line" - Electric Light Orchestra. A lot of songs about the phone are more longing love songs...trying to connect with a lost love, rekindling a friendship or romance. Jeff Lynde treats us to one with this pretty ELO track.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. "Call Me" - Blondie. Debbie Harry had a thing for phones, I guess. Here's another...the theme song for the film 'American Gigolo'...this one more along the lines of another telephone love song. But after the movie, more like a paid love song. Still a great song.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "Jenny" - Tommy Tutone. This song is so ingrained into our minds that a phone number had to be universally retired because of it. What a miserable existence it must of been to have the number 867-5309 when this song about harassing a girl who's number was scrawled on the men's room wall came out.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. "Operator" - Jim Croce. What a sad day it was when we lost one of our great balladeers when Jim Croce's plane went down. Another song about lost love and trying to reconnect over the phone line.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Remember" - Harry Nilsson. One of the best modern composers in modern American music, Nilsson also has a tremendous voice with great range. After his big hit album, 'Nilsson Schmilsson,' Harry followed up with a collection of more personal songs, 'Son of Schmillson.' This beautiful ballad is a great example of what's on the record along with the infamous f*** you to his ex, "You're Breaking my Heart," "Spaceman," and the Caribbean flavored "The Most Beautiful World in the World."
<strike><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"The Chain" - Fleetwood Mac. The story behind the making of this album, 'Rumours,' is legendary. Lyndsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were ending their relationship. John and Christine McVie were divorcing and not talking to each other. Infidelity was in the air and Mick Fleetwood found his wife was having an affair at the same time. These were five people, supremely pissed off at each other, put into a studio to make an album. Well, anger and heartbreak are the engine to great music and this is one of the best results. This song, laying out all the feelings of betrayal, was the group effort of the album. Other songs include "Second Hand News," "Go Your Own Way," and "Don't Stop." </strike>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Der Kommisar" - Falco. Johan Hözel, after doing a short stint in the Austrian army, started as a bass player in the Vienna music scene and changed his name to Falco. His manager, Horst Bork, thought this song...which combines rap for the lyrics with a sung chorus...would be his breakthough hit, since rap was just starting to become popular in America but was pretty much unheard of in Austria at the time. He was right.

Our disc is the 12 inch, 33 RPM version. In excellent shape and in Falco's native German. It's a great song from a talent that was taken away to early at the age of 40 in a car crash in the Dominican Republic...he had been intoxicated on alcohol and drugs at the time. Der Kommisar at The Musick Channel Garage Sale
<span style="color: red; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><strike>"Games Without Frontiers" - Peter Gabriel. After leaving as the lead singer for Genesis (a job that would be taken over by the band's drummer, Phil Collins), Gabriel recorded several solo albums. The first four were simply titled 'Peter Gabriel' and the only way to quickly tell them apart is the year they were released. 1980's version was the one where he finally broke through as a solo artist. Quirky arrangements and deep lyrics are the trademark of this LP, along with the melting face cover art that was achieved by dripping acid on Polaroid pictures.</strike>

I know most kids have already been back to school for a week or more by now. In our times, we'd still be waiting until after Labor Day to start.

Summer's over, though, and here is some back-to-school songs to soothe you students as you ease back into the grind.

5. "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" - Pink Floyd. Roger Waters remembering the punishments meted out at his boyhood boarding school came up with the chilling story lines and lyrics for this indictment of punishing education discipline. Remember, how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?

4. "School Days" - Chuck Berry. It's been said that Chuck Berry invented rock and roll by infusing his great guitar playing into his St. Louis blues. Here's one of his classics about the rigors of being back in the classroom.

3. "Be True to Your School" - Beach Boys. High school might be a drag but when Friday nigh comes along, you've gotta be there for your team.

2. "Hot for Teacher" - Van Halen. Ever had a crush on your teacher? David Lee Roth did.

1. "Rock and Roll High School" - Ramones. Don't care about history? You just want to have some kicks and get some chicks? Well, the Ramones feel your pain. From the camp classic movie of the same name comes another great song by the Ramones.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Cleveland Rocks" - Ian Hunter. Way before the "Drew Carey Show," Hunter...the lead singer of Mott the Hoople (rememeber "All the Young Dudes?")...put this song on his album 'You're Never Alone With a Schizophrenic.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Bastard" - Ian Hunter. Another great song from this album. Check it out.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Touch 'n Go" - The Cars. Getting away from their signature sound a bit on the 'Panorama' album, the band still produced some great tunes on this one including the title track, "Don't Tell Me No," and this one.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Wavelength" - Van Morrison. Man, this guy can belt out the blues. This album includes such gems as "Kingdom Hall," "Hungry for your Love," and "Santa Fe/Beautiful Obsession," but it was this title track that led me to go to my local Tower Records and plop down my money to buy it. Great album.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Thunder Island" - Jay Ferguson. 70's island pop. Catchy tune, fun album.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Heartbreaker" - Pat Benatar. Massive hit showing women can rock just as hard from the 70's. Also includes her follow up hit "I Need a Lover." Only album in the collection that is not in excellent shape, a smudge mars part of side one on the track "If You Think You Know How to Love Me" but the rest of the vinyl's in great shape.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It's been a helluva hot summer, hasn't it? Well, it's just about done. For a lot of you, This may be the last weekend you can pack up the family and heat to the beach before the kids get back to school For you parents with kids that have already gone back to school - congratulations.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Now, let's strike up some tunes for that last day on the hot sand...
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. "Upholstery" - The Juicy Fruits (Phantom of the Paradise Soundtrack). Back in the early days of his career, director Brian de Palma teamed up with actor and composer Paul Williams to come up with a brilliant send up of several themes...Faust, "The Picture of Dorian Grey," "Phantom of the Opera,"scheming record companies. Trust me, it all comes together in this comedic, horror musical. In fact, I think it'll be our Halloween night movie this year.

The basic story is a composer named Winslow writes a rock opera based on the story of Faust selling his soul to the devil. An evil record company exec steals his music...and his soul...and pumps out crass versions of it while the composer haunts his nightclub like the Phantom in "Phantom of the Opera".
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">One of those rip off version is this one, a catchy tune by a manufactured Beach Boys ripoff band about the joys of car upholstery. Too bad for the band that Winslow takes offense at it. See the scene from the movie at this link: Juicy Fruits - "Phantom of the Paradise" Video (2:53)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
4. "Vacation" - The Go Go's. Why we take summer vacations, all wrapped up in a peppy, poppy song by the ultimate 80's girls band. Who wouldn't want to spend a day at the beach with them?

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. "Wipeout" - Surfaris. Who doesn't want to dance on the beach all day to this song?

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. "Margaritaville" - Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band. Yep, shots and drinks on a pristine Mexican beach while the prawns are roasting on a stick over an open fire in the background. Perfect day at the beach.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. "Sloop John B" - The Beach Boys. My ultimate beach song is more about a bad boat cruise in the Bahamas...very bad...something that we here can relate to. My all-time favorite tune from one of the greatest California bands ever.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">God, it's been quite a hot summer here. Temps at times climbed up to 120 and beyond. 110 was almost normal and there were very few days under 100. Don't believe it when people say it's alway 70 degrees and beautiful here in Southern California, only a select and wealthy few can afford to live by the beach where it's more or less like that all the time.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Let's pour some gas on the fire with some hot tunes...
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. Some Like it Hot - Robert Palmer. I don't, summer just wears me down, but I do love me some Robert Palmer. The late blues singer could make anything sound good, even sweating it out to this intense heat. Sadly, Mr. Palmer died of cardiac arrest in Paris back in 2003.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. Summertime Blues - The Who. Eddie Cochran did the original but I'm going with the Who for this one about having to spend your summer vacation hustling up a dollar instead of heading to the beach with your friends.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful. Before crafting the theme for "Welcome Back Kotter," John Sebastian sang this song that makes you feel uncomfortably hot just listening to it. Good song but, ugh, hate the feeling of the back of my neck feeling hot and gritty.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. Heatwave - Martha and the Vandellas. More like it, a good Motown song always feels better. I can imagine listening to this on a hot summer day, sipping a cold, sweet soda next to the pier.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. Fire - Bruce Springsteen. The Pointer Sisters had the big hit with it but Bruce wrote it and this is an acoustic, bluesy and slow version that I love, although I do really like the sisters version too.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">There, five songs to turn up the heat with. Hopefully, we'll have some cooler weather and great songs to go with that, too.

For a feature named after one of the Ten Commandments, it only makes sense to showcase music that highlights one of the biggest religious weeks of the year. No worries...no sermons or homilies...just good music that paints a picture of the message of the week.

Let's start off with Judas Iscariot. Was he a scapegoat, a traitor, a confused follower? Debates can be found elsewhere. Today, we're just enjoying the late Carl Anderson's outstanding portrayal of the man who turned Jesus in for 30 pieces of silver.

The Doobie Brothers, named after all the pot they smoked over the years, may not seem such a likely source for a song about what a friend they have in Jesus but here you go...

For our Jewish friends, let's put the Maccabeats in here with the Passover story, as might have been told by Victor Hugo.

Norman Greenbaum struck a chord with his homage to the Spirit in the Sky. Mr. Greenbaum is now a farmer in Sonoma.

Depeche Mode chimes in with their views.

Johnny Cash did a very good cover of this one too.

It was forty years ago today. No, that's not the day that Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play. It was the day Southern California had it's own mammoth music festival, the California Jam.

Where the 10 and 15 freeways intersect today, on what is now covered by Ontario Mills Shopping Center and other various businesses, there was a large speedway.

Ontario Motor Speeday had a track copied from Indy, a 2.5 mile rectangle with rounded corners. If you saw the old George Hamilton movie, 'Evel Knievel,' this was where the scenes regarding his big jump were filmed.

This was the location of the California Jam. I wasn't there, I was only 12 at the time, but I do remember it. It was shown on TV and that day, we were driving along the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) to my grandmother's house and I remember it was so crowded that people just parked there cars over the first couple of lanes of freeway and walked in from there.

Must've been a hell of a show.

Here are a few highights...

Let's start with a very, very young Ozzy Osbourne leading Black Sabbath in a rendition of 'War Pigs.'

Let's move on to the Eagles remembering that time they stood on the corner in Winsow, Arizona.

Rare Earth just wants to celebrate.

Not this day, but one of the craziest, rowdiest concerts I ever attended in my life was headlined by Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas.

For many people that day, the highlight was this performance of 'Smoke on the Water."

A lot more people thought that the big highlight was Keith Emerson taking flight with his piano.

We'll leave you with this version of Karn Evil 9 from the Jam...

The name Michael Fitzpatrick may or may not sound familiar to you right off the bat. On the other hand, the name of the band he formed you've probably heard before. Fitzpatrick is the frontman of the Los Angeles based Fitz and The Tantrums.

Fitz and The Tantrums came on the scene in 2008. The band lineup consists of Fitzpatrick on lead vocals and keyboards, Noelle Scaggs on vocals and percussion, James King who seems to play just about any instrument you could think of, Joseph Karnes on bass guitar, Jeremy Ruzumma on keyboards and John Wicks on drums and percussion.

They released their first album Pickin' Up The Pieces in August of 2010. The album turned out to be a smashing success! The interesting thing about the album is that it was all recorded in Fitzpatrick's living room! It's easier to understand why they did this when you consider that they couldn't afford to go into a professional recording studio due to the usual struggles a band seems to go through just to get noticed.

Sob stories aside, the band has now achieved great success. Pickin' Up The Pieces gives a taste of what the band is really about. They have a soulful and blues feel in their music for sure. One track that stands out in particular is "Dear Mr. President."

A title with the word President in it would probably lead you to believe that the song is somehow aimed at the government efforts, or lack thereof, to help out its own citizens. That may have been the band's goal from the outset, but I also think the song's message is much more than a government manifesto.
"Hey put your foot down and take a look round. Don't like what you see? No no no no no no!"

The lyrics tell general tales of people going through various struggles in their daily lives. There is also the contemplation of how these folks go about trying to make a better life for themselves and their families and acquaintances.

As the song advises, if you don't like your current situation in life, one choice is to put your foot down and do what you can to either change your life or make the best of it. In the end though, it should be up to you to figure out how you want to live your life.

By the way, who doesn't like a song that starts with a catchy "Hey, woo!" clap chant?

Every time I hear Boz Scaggs' "Lido Shuffle," I'm always asking myself what the heck is it about? The best interpretation I can come up with is a con man gambler who's luck is running out. The lyrics make that meaning seem logical enough.
According to Scaggs in a 2013 interview with Song Facts, he came up with the idea for the song came from a song that Fats Domino domino did called "The Fat Man." That song had a shuffling beat to it similar to "Lido Shuffle."

Interpretations aside, "Lido Shuffle" is a dynamite selection on Scaggs' Silk Degrees album from 1976. You may or may not know that members of Scaggs, backing band at the time, including David Paich, would later form the band called Toto. "Lido" was also featured on the soundtrack for the movie FM.

All in all, Mr. Scaggs has had quite a career for himself. He is still going strong making albums. His most recent was 2013's Memphis. Keep up the good work Boz!

Brandy Clark has been on the Nashville scene for quite a while. Prior to releasing her debut solo album 12 Stories in 2013, Clark made a living as a prolific songwriter for other country music artists in Nashville. The long list of names includes Rebecca Lynn Howard, Reba McEntire, Miranda Lambert, LeAnn Rimes and Kacey Musgraves just to name a few. For those of you who are familiar with Musgraves' "Follow Your Arrow," you can thank Ms. Clark for making that song possible.

With a bunch of writing credits under her belt dating back to 2005, Clark has officially entered the realm of solo artist with material of her very own.

12 Stories is filled with very good songs throughout and as such, it is very hard for me to pick a favorite. Each selection is beautifully written and delves into aspects of everyday life that make traditional country music so good. Did I also mention that some of the songs deal with very dark subject matter. The album is made up of 12 tracks or stories that were admired by other artists but were not recorded by them due to the provocative storytelling and daring content. Clark, however, is a master at blending the dark subject matter with a nice touch of humor. One track that illustrates this very point is the album's first single "Stripes."

"Stripes" tells the story of woman who catches her significant other in bed cheating on her with another woman. The protagonist seems to be so effected by this that she contemplates murdering her significant other right then and there. While she doesn't mind the prospect of spending the rest of her life in jail for the most part, her vanity wins out because she fears how she would look in an orange jumpsuit and she hates stripes. It is because of this that the man is saved from an almost certain death and the woman doesn't face a life in jail.

One can only hope this is the start of a successful solo career for one of Nashville's most well known songwriters within the country music industry.

Warning...explicit language ahead.

A little bit of full disclosure about how I prefer my music. If there is more than one version of a particular song I like, I generally prefer to go with the original version of how the artist intended it to be experienced. This is especially true when it comes to profane language in any given song. I do not like the so called watered down lyrics.

Enter Thomas DeCarlo Callaway's (a.k.a Cee Lo Green), "Forget You!" For the longest time, I was under the impression that there was one and only one official version of "Forget You!" That all changed after I saw the March 15, 2012 episode of Live From Daryl's House in which Green was the guest artist.

In the middle of the episode, Daryl Hall and his superb bandmates, along with Cee Lo, did a very good rendition of the full unedited version of "Fuck You!" I haven't viewed "Forget You!" in the same light ever since! Whenever I hear the "Forget You!" version now, all I can do is laugh! It should be noted, perhaps somewhat ironically, that the original inspiration for the song comes from how Cee Lo views today's music industry and how they do business. He definitely makes no secret of his disdain for it. This song can be looked at as a big middle finger pointed directly at the head honchos who help create today's so called "music."

You've probably heard enough of my chatter by now! Let's get on with the show! In honor of those who feel that music is a form of free speech and should not be censored no matter what, here is the full unedited version of "Fuck You!" from LFDH the way it was meant to be seen and heard:

"I see you drivin' round town with the girl I love and I'm like, 'FUCK YOU!' "

One last thing. It always cracks me up when I hear Daryl Hall sing such profane language. How he's able to keep a straight face, I'll never know. I guess that's why he's a professional and I'm not.
