5. "Ain't No Sunshine" - Bill Withers. Oh the blues and pain of it all. It's dark, it's deary, it's like...there's no sunshine when she's gone. Let Bill Withers mournful voice be a sympathetic voice during this pain.
4. "Somebody That I Used to Know" - Gotye. It's maddening, your sad, but at some point you just have to move on. You don't really know them anymore.
3. "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" - Paul Simon. When it dawns on you that you need to leave, let Paul give you some suggestions, like just slip out the back, Jack.
2. "Fall to Pieces" - Patsy Cline. Now that you've gotten out, what's it like everytime you see your old flame? Well, for some it's so painful that they fall apart.

There are five new albums listed this week, plus our trio of Boz Scaggs LP's from last week, and a few left over from previous auctions. All of our products are in great condition and are priced well below others in the same shape. Let's see what's new this week... "Welcome to the Machine" - Pink Floyd. 'Wish You Were Here' is the band's follow-up to their smash hit album, 'Dark Side of the Moon.' Follow-ups are usually mere shadows of the album that preceeded them but this one hit just as much of a home run as '...Moon.' It's among the pantheon of Pink Floyd's masterpiece albums and includes such great songs as "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," the band's beautiful tribute to former band member Syd Barrett, and "Have a Cigar," Roger Waters acidly sarcastic song about greedy record executives. (Out Go The Lights)" - Pat Travers. His most famous song, a real singalong in person, this is a rocking cover of an old blues tune. Our copy of 'Go For What You Know,' Mr. Travers live album, has a rare red-on-black Polydor inner sleeve in near mint condition to go along with the excellent condition vinyl and outer jacket. Buy Pat Travers' 'Go For What You Know' at The Musick Channel Garage Sale. "Ring of Fire" - Wall of Voodoo. When this came on at Tower Records while I was browsing one day, I knew I had to have it. Moody and haunting, this cover of Johnny Cash's hit would fit right in at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. Outer cover's a little worn but, otherwise, our disc is close to mint condition including the record itself, the inner sleeve, and the lyrics insert. Buy Wall of Voodoo at The Musick Channel Garage Sale. "Situation" - Yaz. Sounds like Depeche Mode, no? Vince Clarke, Depeche Mode's drummer started this band and, yes, you'd be forgiven if you thought it was his previous band. Great club dance tune. This is a 12" 45 RPM single, with two different versions of the song on either side. It's in excellent condition, inside and out. Buy "Situation" 12" Single at The Musick Channel Garage Sale. "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?" - Waylon Jennings. Seems like every artist comes up with a tune that's basically a f**k you to their record company at some point. Jennings writes this one about how the Country music industry has basically sold out and has become a 'grooming' machine for artists to tow the line with. As he relates, there's no way Hank Williams did it that way. No wonder he's an outlaw. Gorgeous portrait of the late Jennings on the cover of this one and it includes many of his best tunes like "Amanda" and "Mommas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys." Fall begins today. I love that, my favorite season of the year. It follows my worst season, summer, which is too hot and miserable. Fall is perfect as the heat settles down before the cold sets in. Composers must have a different idea because most songs about the season are melancholy and somber...odes mourning the end of summer. That's too bad.
5. "Harvest Moon" - Neil Young. Here's a beautiful song celebrating a life-long love affair. Young's a wonderful songwriter and this song, which sings many times "because I'm still in love with you" really resonates to those who are deeply in love.
4. "September" - Earth, Wind, and Fire. A simple song with some simple lyrics. Peppy and happy, we're still in love in December like we were in September. That's pretty much the entire song.
3. "California Dreaming" - The Mama's and the Papas. Living in a gray New York as fall sets in, dreaming about being in California where...the quakes and wildfires are going strong? Well, that's just our real life interrupting this pretty fantasy.
2. "If We Make it Through December" - Merle Haggard. Another sad song about the season. Someone's been laid off, hoping to make it through the end of the year where things might look up a bit, even some California dreaming in here, too.
1. "What Made Milwaukee Famous Made a Loser Out Of Me" - Jerry Lee Lewis. Fall is also time for our favorite holiday, Oktoberfest. We top this list off with a great beer drinking song for singing in your favorite beer tent or garten this fall. Presented by the killer himself. Like the music? Last week I had the privilege of seeing my all-time favorite musician live...William Royce Scaggs, better known by his high school nickname, Boz...in Santa Barbara.

It was a great show and the 74 year old's voice was still perfect. Hopefully, you like him to because this week we're highlighting Boz Scaggs with three of his albums being listed at The Musick Channel Garage Sale on Ebay.
Here are some selections from those albums...
"Lido Shuffle"- Originally on his biggest hit album, 'Silk Degrees,' we have this track on 'Hits', Boz's greatest hits album, released in 1980 by Columbia. The song tells of some con, trying to pull off one last score, and then heading into the sunset across the border. This song is a little more rocking that the blues-infused music Scaggs usually likes to play. Great bouncy number featuring David Paich's (of Toto fame) synthesizer bridge in the middle.
"Miss Sun" - A new track for the 'Hits' album, this almost throwaway song became a big hit for Boz and is a highlight of his live show when he sings the third chorus with his backup singer, Miss Monique.
Our 'Hits!' disc is in great condition, inside and out. You'll love this collection of Boz Scaggs greatest hits plus the extra track of "Miss Sun," highlighted above.
"You Make It So Hard To Say No" Before 'Silk Degrees' and collaborating with David Paich and the Porcaro Brothers, Boz was starting to show his poppy inclinations of the 1970's with is album 'Slow Dancer.' It really showed how accessible his music could be and, with a little polishing and the help of Paich and the Porcaros, the next album struck gold and platinum. This song of a guy thinking about one that got away hits all those marks that would make 'Silk Degrees' the all-time classic album that it it.
The 'Slow Dancer' album in the garage sale is another red-label Columbia release that's in excellent condition. Come on over and make your bid or buy it on the spot.
"Hard Times" The follow up album to 'Silk Degrees' is 'Down Two Then Left.' It didn't spawn any top 40 hits but the album itself was a big seller, hitting number 11 on the Billboard charts. In my opinion, this one is just as good as 'Silk Degrees' and this number, kind of the opposite of above, of a guy falling helplessly in love highlights his way of putting his blues stamp on a catchy, danceable pop tune.
'Down Two Then Left,' with it's melting ice sculpture of Boz on the cover, is available at The Musick Channel Garage sale. It's in great condition and will make a excellent addition to your Boz Scaggs vinyl collection.
"Lowdown" His biggest, monster hit. This is the one that paid for his vineyard in Napa Valley. A song about a guy pretending he's a big shot to his girl when he's just another low. Smooth, jazzy, great lyrics, with his blues overtones, this is all Boz Scaggs distilled into one song. No wonder it became such a bit hit...even though he didn't think it would be. The anchor of the 'Silk Degrees' album, it's also on the 'Hits' disk we have for sale.
Sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...pretty much defined the music of my youth. On the other hand, many great songs found solace in the bottom of a bottle. There's been some great explorations of drowning out our sorrows over lost love, lost jobs, and just loss of dignity at times. Let's get right to it...
6. "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer" - George Thorogood. Thorogood covers this Amos Milburn drinking ballad exceptionally well. He's out on the streets after his landlady kicks him out, his friend won't let him crash on the couch. Only one thing left to do...gonna get drunk until he can't even speak.
5. "Red, Red Wine" - UB40 - England's reggae band got a big hit with this one. About trying to forget that one who broke up with you but you think you still need. The red wine will help you forget, my friend...
4. "I Lie When I Drink" - Dale Watson. Like Merle Haggard's "Swinging Doors," this tune is about a guy who basically lives in the bar. But he's a truthful gent, until he gets a few under his belt. A great honky tonk tune by the best in the business.
3. "Drunken Lullabies" - Flogging Molly. This Irish punk band (by way of L.A.) comes through with this song about dark prospects and the unreal possibility of achieving anything good so we end up the same old way...singing drunken lullabies instead.
2. "Tonight, the Bottle Let Me Down" - The Mavericks. Raul Malo and the Mavericks love to take a dark song and set it to a happy, uptempo tune and this rendering of Merle Haggard's classic tale about how even the alcohol can't make him forget his lost love is a perfect example. Great swing version of the country classic.
1. "Misery and Gin" - Merle Haggard. The king of drinking songs. Nobody did it as prolific and with such expertise as did the Hag. I could do a couple of entire lists of his odes to alcohol...maybe I will someday...but we'll put the cherry on top of this list with this one. Another ode to a lost love, a guy drinking to forget, hooking up with a meaningless fling, trying to make his appearances seem way happier than the sad truth...a masterpiece of a song. The telephone...has there ever been an invention that went from such a necessity to such an annoyance so fast? I'm not exaggerating when I say that 9 out of 10 calls we receive on our house phone is from someone trying to sell me something I don't want or actually a criminal trying to steal my money.
We don't even answer it anymore, so if you call make sure you aren't offended by having to leave a message. It's just too frustrating anymore. With that, here is our week's top five list of songs devoted to Alexander Graham Bell's invention that worked its way under our skin.
5. "Hanging on the Telephone" - Blondie. The bands hard rocking hit from their Parallel Lines album hits it hard. The lyrics mean something else altogether but I can see it being me getting so upset with the idiots that call nowadays. Listening to this, I'll get Frank Infante's great driving guitar solo stuck in my head for a week.
4. "Telephone Line" - Electric Light Orchestra. A lot of songs about the phone are more longing love songs...trying to connect with a lost love, rekindling a friendship or romance. Jeff Lynde treats us to one with this pretty ELO track.
3. "Call Me" - Blondie. Debbie Harry had a thing for phones, I guess. Here's another...the theme song for the film 'American Gigolo'...this one more along the lines of another telephone love song. But after the movie, more like a paid love song. Still a great song.
2. "Jenny" - Tommy Tutone. This song is so ingrained into our minds that a phone number had to be universally retired because of it. What a miserable existence it must of been to have the number 867-5309 when this song about harassing a girl who's number was scrawled on the men's room wall came out.
1. "Operator" - Jim Croce. What a sad day it was when we lost one of our great balladeers when Jim Croce's plane went down. Another song about lost love and trying to reconnect over the phone line. "Remember" - Harry Nilsson. One of the best modern composers in modern American music, Nilsson also has a tremendous voice with great range. After his big hit album, 'Nilsson Schmilsson,' Harry followed up with a collection of more personal songs, 'Son of Schmillson.' This beautiful ballad is a great example of what's on the record along with the infamous f*** you to his ex, "You're Breaking my Heart," "Spaceman," and the Caribbean flavored "The Most Beautiful World in the World." This disc is in excellent shape. The cover has some classic artwork on the big, gatefold outer jacket, too. "The Chain" - Fleetwood Mac. The story behind the making of this album, 'Rumours,' is legendary. Lyndsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were ending their relationship. John and Christine McVie were divorcing and not talking to each other. Infidelity was in the air and Mick Fleetwood found his wife was having an affair at the same time. These were five people, supremely pissed off at each other, put into a studio to make an album. Well, anger and heartbreak are the engine to great music and this is one of the best results. This song, laying out all the feelings of betrayal, was the group effort of the album. Other songs include "Second Hand News," "Go Your Own Way," and "Don't Stop." "Der Kommisar" - Falco. Johan Hözel, after doing a short stint in the Austrian army, started as a bass player in the Vienna music scene and changed his name to Falco. His manager, Horst Bork, thought this song...which combines rap for the lyrics with a sung chorus...would be his breakthough hit, since rap was just starting to become popular in America but was pretty much unheard of in Austria at the time. He was right.
Our disc is the 12 inch, 33 RPM version. In excellent shape and in Falco's native German. It's a great song from a talent that was taken away to early at the age of 40 in a car crash in the Dominican Republic...he had been intoxicated on alcohol and drugs at the time. "Mental Hopscotch - Missing Persons. Former Playboy bunny and Frank Zappa bandmate, Dale Bozzio went on to form Missing Persons with drummer Warren Cuccurullo and Terry Bozzio (her then husband). Along with this song about unreliable people playing games with you, this band-financed EP (only 7,000 pressings were made) had their other hits 'Words,' 'I Like Boys,' and 'Destination Unkown.'
Our version has vinyl in excellent shape. The outer jacket shows some normal storage wear and tear, and there's a small tear on the inner sleeve. Missing Persons 4-song EP at The Musick Channel Garage Sale- oops, too late...SOLD
"Games Without Frontiers" - Peter Gabriel. After leaving as the lead singer for Genesis (a job that would be taken over by the band's drummer, Phil Collins), Gabriel recorded several solo albums. The first four were simply titled 'Peter Gabriel' and the only way to quickly tell them apart is the year they were released. 1980's version was the one where he finally broke through as a solo artist. Quirky arrangements and deep lyrics are the trademark of this LP, along with the melting face cover art that was achieved by dripping acid on Polaroid pictures. Our album is fully intact and in great shape. It's the original Mercury 1980 release and also includes the very colorful lyric sheet insert. I know most kids have already been back to school for a week or more by now. In our times, we'd still be waiting until after Labor Day to start. Summer's over, though, and here is some back-to-school songs to soothe you students as you ease back into the grind.
5. "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" - Pink Floyd. Roger Waters remembering the punishments meted out at his boyhood boarding school came up with the chilling story lines and lyrics for this indictment of punishing education discipline. Remember, how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?
4. "School Days" - Chuck Berry. It's been said that Chuck Berry invented rock and roll by infusing his great guitar playing into his St. Louis blues. Here's one of his classics about the rigors of being back in the classroom.
3. "Be True to Your School" - Beach Boys. High school might be a drag but when Friday nigh comes along, you've gotta be there for your team.
2. "Hot for Teacher" - Van Halen. Ever had a crush on your teacher? David Lee Roth did.
1. "Rock and Roll High School" - Ramones. Don't care about history? You just want to have some kicks and get some chicks? Well, the Ramones feel your pain.
